Report of an educational visit to the Old age home
As a part of the 3rd Year BHMS curriculum under the Competency-Based Dynamic Curriculum, NCH, guidelines, an educational visit to the Old age home was organized on July 11, 2026, by C. N. Kothari Homoeopathic Medical College and Research Center, Vyara.
The primary purpose of this field visit was to provide students with practical exposure to “Geriatric Health and Welfare” under the subject of Community Medicine. The visit allowed students to observe how an institutional facility manages the distinct socio-medical, physical, and psychological needs of an aging population outside a traditional hospital setup.
Objectives of the Visit:
• To Study Institutional Geriatric Care:To observe the practical execution of round-the-clock medical monitoring, including 24-hour nursing care, medication management, mobility assistance, and emergency response protocols.
• To Evaluate Preventive Environmental Safety: To examine how senior-friendly architectural design (clean, well-lit, risk-reducing layouts) serves as a primary preventive measure to eliminate fall hazards and assist independent movement.
• To Analyze Holistic & Psychosocial Support: To assess methods used to counter elderly isolation and loneliness through structured daily routines, active social interaction, and compassionate companionship.
• To Understand Personalized Healthcare Delivery: To observe an ethical care model where health management and dietary routines are tailored to individual health conditions and lifestyle preferences rather than a “one-size-fits-all” approach.
• To Sensitize Future Physicians:To build clinical empathy among students, preparing them to address chronic age-related ailments and palliative needs from a holistic community health perspective.
• To evaluate the scope of homoeopathy in managing or supporting geriatric health Care.
Key Observations & Learning
Outcomes:
During the visit to the Chandranchi Foundation, a highly reliable, calm, and hygienic ecosystem was observed. Students gained direct insights into how professional, continuous care ensures senior safety and dignity. The experience successfully demonstrated the direct link between a secure physical environment, emotional support, and improved health outcomes for elderly residents.
